Ao nascermos, estamos cheios de vida, movimento e flexibilidade. Com o passar dos anos, perdemos isso, dando início aos processos que quebram o equilíbrio corporal e, quando o movimento é impedido de acontecer, aparecem as doenças. É o caso da diabetes, se a insulina não consegue carregar açúcar. Ou se o intestino é “preguiçoso”, temos constipação. Entre outros problemas, como artrose e tendinite, devido às articulações não deslizarem direito.
Ou seja, se músculos do corpo não são colocados para trabalhar, atrofiam e enfraquecem, tornando cansativa uma simples atividade do dia a dia.
Todavia, o estudo da Antropologia Biológica, ou Bioantropologia, está sendo utilizado ao tratamento de problemas musculoesqueléticos, principalmente nos EUA, Inglaterra e França. No Brasil, as faculdades não enfatizam essa perspectiva, apesar de fazer parte do currículo dos profissionais. São destacados apenas os aspectos culturais, pois há um equívoco na construção do conhecimento científico na área: os estudos das disciplinas biológicas, como anatomia, fisiologia e biomecânica, não consideram a evolução. E para entender o que é natural para o corpo humano, temos que pesquisar os ancestrais do Homem, de modo a entender quais os movimentos que o homem deixou de fazer e os motivos dos problemas musculoesqueléticos quando perdeu tais hábitos.
Alguns acham que é dar um passo para trás, pois acreditam que todo progresso é bom, o que não é bem assim. Depositamos a esperança da cura na tecnologia, mas esquecemos que hábitos modernos, como sentar, fazem com que o ser humano perca a capacidade de fazer movimentos como a cócoras. É como se nos engessássemos progressivamente.
A cócoras devolve a mobilidade e a força de diversas estruturas corporais, previne uma série de dores musculoesqueléticas, prepara o corpo para movimentos mais complexos, como a caminhada e a corrida, e até melhora a função gastrointestinal. Outros movimentos também são estudados pela Bioantropologia, é o caso do “quatro apoios”, o famoso engatinhar.
Teoricamente, todos deveriam poder realizar qualquer movimento que respeite a movimentação natural humana. Porém, para alguns, certos movimentos parecem impossíveis, mas que ninguém deveria deixar de fazer, pois já foi capaz em algum momento do seu desenvolvimento motor.
Há diversos modos de conseguir e os benefícios são vários, desde fortalecimento dos membros superiores, até a estabilização dos músculos profundos do tronco, organização da pelve e da coluna.
Por enquanto, o método é pouco difundido no Brasil. A população só tem acesso por meio dos atendimentos de profissionais com essa formação.
